Eden Paulo, originally from Sao Paulo, began his artistic studies at the age of 15 in Salvador de Bahia. In 2002, at the invitation of his artistic director, he joined the Ballet da Mata as a musician, where he remained for four years and reached the position of musical director. He is currently the musical director of Cortejo Afro, which he performs under the tutelage of the visual artist Alberto Pitta.
Adriana Portela, originally from Salvador de Bahia, began her musical career in 1992 under the guidance of Maestro Neguinho do Samba, creator of samba reggae. She is recognised for being the first woman to lead an afro bloco. Currently, she is the musical director and head of the cultural area of the Didá association. She is also a world reference for the genre, standing out as the leader of an Afro-descendant feminist project.
Born in Sao Paulo, at the age of 8 she created a band called Meninos da Rocinha in Pelourinho, where she started playing with recycled instruments. With the support of her mother, she acquired her first set of drums and taught herself by observing masters such as Mestre Prego, Mestre Neguinho do Samba and Mestre Gordo. Her goal was always to share her knowledge with the children of her neighbourhood, Rocinha. Today, she is a renowned percussionist in Salvador de Bahia and continues as a mestrinha of Meninos da Rocinha.
Marivaldo Santiago, originally from Salvador de Bahia, began his artistic career in 1990 in the Bloco Afro Ilê Aiyê. In 1991, he became an instructor and educator at the Banda Erê de Ilê Aiyê, where he taught percussion to children and adolescents. From 1993, he took over the musical direction of Band'Aiyê, the main group of Ilê Aiyê. He has also collaborated on albums by renowned artists such as Caetano Veloso, Daniela Mercury and Ivete Sangalo. He is currently mestre of the Bloco Afro Ilê Aiyê and lives in Paris, France, where he continues his work as a percussionist.
He began his musical career at the age of 14 as a musician in the children's band of the Bloco Afro Malê Debalê. At the age of 19, he was appointed mestre of this same bloco, a position he held for more than 20 years. Today, he is a renowned percussionist in Salvador de Bahia and teaches percussion workshops worldwide. He is a key figure in the history of samba reggae.
